A generous item on Calbuzz about my attempts to speak to the California Democratic party at its upcoming convention. … If they want to endorse Sen. Boxer, fine. But why bother to declare her two opponents not “viable” and rule them out beforehand? I’ll be on the ballot regardless. The main effect of the party’s semi-authoritarian, Iraq-like decree seems to be to prevent me from speaking to the convention. Are they afraid someone might listen? I didn’t realize Boxer was that insecure about her prospects. … 1:27 P.M.

Why “Iraq-like decree“? Iraq’s current political system seems fairly pluralistic.
Because there was a committee headed by Chalabi that went through and disqualified candidates at the last minute. In a way that was not widely perceived as fair!
Mr. Kaus, I would kindly ask you to refer to Senator Boxer by that term. She has worked hard to earn the title and it makes her feel bad that not everyone respects her the way she deserves respect. Additionally, you and your readers may be interested in a couple books written by the senator –A Time to Run, Chronicle Books, 2005 and Blind Trust, Chronicle Books, 2009. Yes, my hometown publisher likes quality literature. The Senator has labored long and hard to author these books and would like an acknowledgement for that as well. Senator Boxer’s son Doug is on the Oakland, CA planning commission. Senator Boxer claims no connection with that fact and the sorry state of the city of Oakland. Sadly, neither former mayor Jerry Brown or current mayor Ron Dellums knows much about running a functional city. Senator Boxer’s daughter Nicole is at long last getting over her divorce from Hillary Rodham’s brother Tony–thank G_d. Should you become aware of a fine upstanding progressive entertainment lawyer in Hollywood, of which you could be expected to know many, would you discretly forward the contact information to her husband Stewart’s law firm? Thanking you in advance.
Who do we write to demand that you speak?
And that is the difference between the progressives who run the California Democratic party and the liberals who should.
Come on, Mickey, where do we give?
Party Chairman John Burton may well be forgetting about the internets, a common affliction of party chairmen and major metropolitan newspaper editors, both.

will get a mild graphic makeover, but it now works. thanks

Mr. Kaus,
On those talking heads internet videos you look like a cool ex-hippie, but in a suit you look like a geeky lawyer – perhaps what your dad looked like in the 50s. Think about that when you appear in public to protest the shutout. By the way, how about this for a campaign slogan: “The New Liberalism”. I hope you win, but if you don’t, please don’t give up the blog.
I see that Joe Wilson of Democrats for Education Reform is quoted in “The Cartel”, which will be screened April 16 in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Summit 5. It’s not quite the CA Democratic Convention but it might be an audience for you Mickey. Via Erin O’Connor at Critical Mass .
Sorry, Joe Williams, not
Joe Wilson.Mickey – maybe she’s running scared because she can’t dig up some old sex scandal on you to dump on the front page of the LA Times a week before the election.
