What’s a better answer (assuming AI doesn’t simply vaporize the professional classes)? Maybe there isn’t one. Various possible solutions are describe here: https://t.co/EPByRkmpaQ Mine, which Noah is undoubtedly tired of hearing about, is #7.

The main solution to “what feels like condescension” of professionals to the less educated would probably not lie in achieving greater *money* equality between them, then. The condescension can survive progressive taxation. 4/

The other part of the middle class problem-certainly for social equality-is the “gap between the working class and the professional class,” notes Noah. But this is a gap more in meritocratic credentials than $$. It persists even when incomes grow closer-when $ inequality falls 3/

Instead, Noah zeroes in on the problem of the middle class. “It was not lousy, in 1979, to be middle class.” It’s lousy now. But that seems like first, a problem of the income stagnation Noah cites, not inequality. Would it be less lousy if Zuckerberg were 1/100th as rich? 2/

Tim Noah argues “the gap between the bottom and the middle” isn’t what “experts talk about.” It’s what they should talk about! The bottom 10% were the group in danger of dropping out of the mainstream. If you care about social equality, that’s the biggest income problem. 1/ https://t.co/fcydDjsVj8

This seems like a huge embarrassment for @SpeakerMcCarthy, if actual GOP voters find out about it. Let McCarthy know that you know–(202) 224-3141 and ask for the Speaker’s office. My bet is he can be shamed out of it if enough people complain. https://t.co/Ax4MNjOo8N
