“Coulter accused Trump of betraying his base by not passing any kind of comprehensive immigration reform …”–Mediaite https://t.co/cz2OMYp3Zl
This is idiotic. Coulter is not for “comprehensive immigration reform” (code phrase for amnesty plus–often ephemeral–enforcement).

CONCLUSION: Changing the Electoral Count Act won’t do the job (eg of stopping state officials from jimmying the 2024 election). It’s up to SCOTUS. Maybe get to work now proposing the theories–eg equal protection?–that will let the justices intervene (again).

Prof. @rickhasen links to the same article, then says “mass, peaceful organizing and protest” might be required. https://t.co/Y3L21t8BYW That’s the solution? Just as hope is not a plan, big demos are not a plan. You turn to law profs for a sturdier solution.

Fair enough. But won’t it be harder for SCOTUS to do that if Congress has already rubber-stamped the count? (And if SCOTUS is to act before Congress meets to count electors– well, does it matter what the Electoral Count Act, governing the count, says?)

It seems clear from this oft-linked piece https://t.co/c3XoERDCGi that the reformers want Congress to stay out but expect SCOTUS to step in with unspecified “federal constitutional doctrines.”

How to stop a ‘rogue’ state? Making it harder or Congress to reject the state’s slate (as many ‘reform’ bills would do) would seem to make the situation *worse.*

Maybe if they narrow the Electoral Count Act provision that lets states throw out results when voters “failed to make a choice” on election day, that would help. (See Reform #6 here https://t.co/leiA3aks2F) But that wouldn’t stop a state that said, ‘No, we know who really won…’

Looks like Congress is getting ready to fight the last war–eg. prevent the VP from throwing out legitimate state electors, when what people worry about is state legislatures (eg GA) sending bogus electors under cover of disputing the vote count https://t.co/xo8E4pfM26

Bizarre that Dems are seizing on opposition to race preferences in life-saving medicines as an issue to use against Trumpish Republicans. Supporting the preferences seems a dead-weight political loser for the Dems, in addition to being wrong and unconstitutional. https://t.co/2D6AuY6eMm
