Hillary Clinton did much worse than Obama with blacks and Hispanics than Obama did. That helped Trump beat Clinton. I’m guessing it’s WHERE those whites were that Trump won, and not the national total. (Actually, it doesn’t really refute Coulter’s claim that Trump foresaw how to beat Clinton & stuck to it.)
California note: Kamala Harris takes Barbara Boxer’s U.S. Senate seat. Legal Insurrection’s Leslie Eastman says, “I anticipate she’ll make Barbara Boxer look like a sane and reasonable politician in retrospect.” Mickey, you owed Californians a better campaign 6 years ago! You should have been holding that seat representing a saner moderate Democratic “wing”.
I see that the GOP now holds 33 governorships and several more state legislative bodies. I wrote a liberal sibling the following (for what it’s worth):
A thought for Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton supporters and your loss of an important spiritual center, of idealism: Having “irredeemable Deplorables” in charge of all aspects of the national government: the U.S. House & Senate, the White House & the executive branch with its bureaucracies, and a future conservative majority on the SCOTUS. There’s nothing left for Democrats.
But do not despair, you can always direct your idealism and communal outreach to private charities, to your church, to your neighborhood communal activities – schools, nursing homes, homeless shelters – even local governments. It will be a big relief not to obsess about how Washington politicians must fix the ills of the nation.
Maybe we should hold a Memorial Service – at which Democrats can officially mourn their loss – and then MoveOn to putting their lives back together.
