My previous nominee for worst reporting (when an event didn't match obvious pre-planned story) was NYT's report that at Dec '15 GOP debate Trump's rivals "united against his plan to bar Muslims." The notable thing about the debate was *this didn't happen.* They chickened out. https://t.co/yicdskNCr0

Ominous kicker: The press characterization of Buchanan's speech worked. (How many people actually watched the speech vs. read the coverage). Bush was damaged. https://t.co/q6uzktYFix

In '92 Pat Buchanan gave a rousing, nicer-than-expected convention speech with memorable line-"Speak for yourself, Hillary." Press denounced it as dark & bigoted-it did oppose gay rights-as if they had pre-planned line & hadn't listened. Doing same to Trump now with less basis.

I suppose it's possible that ex-GOP @BillKristol will find a congenial home with the newly pro-war Democrats (https://t.co/iJwYzOrRcJ ) instead of an anti-interventionist Trump/Tucker GOP–and might not mind a permanent Dem majority. https://t.co/AgoPhOQVL5

There was nothing like this in the speech: "Trump’s repeated championing of monuments, memorials and military bases honoring Confederate leaders .."
Did @costareports just pre-write his account and … hey never mind what Trump actually said?https://t.co/Glu5wYae3R

Huh? I didn't see any mention of "Confederate symbols" in the speech, or in the list of "heroes." More the opposite–celebrations of North winning the civil war, abolitionists, etc. https://t.co/MncShZT6DH

.@BillKristol wants Dem Senate: "Even if Democrats have 52 senators, several are going to be John Hickenlooper, Mark Warner, Michael Bennet, who are pretty moderate Democrats." But ALL THOSE SENATORS WILL PASS GANG-OF-8 AMNESTY. Game over. Bye red stateshttps://t.co/SAtTEHaYDe
