Good question. Could Scalise wipe the slate clean? Or is McCarthy’s strategy a poison pill for his most logical substitutes? https://t.co/k2rK7dzfVx

If Upton (who’s retiring from Congress) is busy deleting Web pages that might make him unpopular in the GOP caucus, doesn’t that suggest that he wants it (the Speakership, thoat is)?

Specifically, Upton endorsed @RepMariaSalazar’s ridiculous legalize-illegals-immediately “DIGNITY” Act. And he did it in 2021. This was not a youthful or even pre-Trump mistake. And not the policy the mass of Republican voters want. https://t.co/ztqCL7RWQ0

There is no immigrant shortage. What’s happened is US workers have withdrawn from labor market. Creative capitalists should be figuring out ways to lure them back (more meaningful jobs?). Instead employers would rather bring in cheaper, powerless migrants https://t.co/rZtgRTeahy

Yglesias not faring well in comments here, for good reason. Border isn’t 100% open. It’s only 85% open! Millions who shouldn’t get in are getting in. WH denies the problem. So the thing to do is score points against GOPs for pointing out the problem in slightly exaggerated terms. https://t.co/uUdSjztG9U
