This article by the head of HR at Google [over 2 million views at Linkedin] gives a realistic view of hiring at a major tech company – they are flooded with highly qualified American applicants.
Avoiding typos is good advice, but note that one typo will get even ‘great’ applicants automatically rejected; that’s how competetive it is for these jobs at Google.
